This week we had the pleasure of meeting with one of our top rated trainers, Taurean Haywood.
Taurean or as his friends call him "T" is a master trainer and fitness athlete in New York. He specializes in one-on-one training and group classes. He is also a co-host on a fitness show called Fitness the Wright Way TV. I've known T for a long time now and I have yet to meet somebody with more charisma, positive energy and amazing knowledge in fitness.
I have trained with him for a long time and his approach is what really got me comfortable pushing my limits. Many trainers seem to just inflict painful exercises and do the same repetitive routines without identifying what you need. The first thing T asked me was if I had any injuries. I have a bad lower back and wrist issue from playing hockey in my earlier days. Secondly, he asked what my goals were and he proceeded to make a personalized regime consisting of stretching and strengthening for me in the beginning.
I wanted more people to get to know T, so we sat down for a quick interview to not only get to know him better but to better understand his philosophies.
One of his favorite mottos is:
"NO PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO BE AN AMATEUR IN THE MATTER OF PHYSICAL TRAINING, IT IS A SHAME FOR A PERSON TO GROW OLD WITHOUT SEEING THE BEAUTY AND STRENGTH OF WHICH THE BODY IS CAPABLE". -Socrates.
Taurean: That is the quote I live by. I started my fitness journey by playing football as a kid. I would play in the local neighborhood parks. I knew I had to improve my body in order to improve my game. I started with doing calisthenics. Through calisthenics I learned how to really understand the functions of my body. I quickly advanced from only doing calisthenics but also lifting weights. Through the ideology the 5 P's as I call it:
Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance and strict dieting I created the body I always wanted.
Gary: The 5 P's, I like that! Why personal training?
Taurean: I've been in the industry for over 10 years now. I can't describe the passion I have towards assisting people on their fitness journeys. Not only is it motivating to see someone religiously work towards reaching their goals it's also reassuring to me as a trainer that I provided my client with the right plan to succeed.
As a trainer and fitness coach, I always recommend that people to learn more about nutrition and exercise.
Having the tools to assist you on your journey is very beneficial. With so many training certifications out today anyone can become a trainer or fitness instructor. A piece of paper doesn't make you a great trainer. The ability to guide an individual while teaching them how build their bodies, mind and confidence in the process makes you a great trainer. Your food intake is no different than the maintenance of your car. What you put in is what you get out. Provide your body with the proper foods for adequate growth and development, no matter what your fitness goals area. If meal prepping is a hassle, look into a fresh food delivery company. Meal prep companies takes the edge off of constantly running to get this food. The time to invest in yourself is every time you wake to see the world again.
