Diet and Sleep Patterns

A study from the University of Pennsylvania analyzed how the food we eat affects our sleep patterns. What they found is that eating a larger variety of foods is associated with the healthiest sleep pattern of 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

Getting enough sleeping hours per night is associated with better overall health and well being and Hearty Meals offers a plan that is high in a variety of foods like healthy fats, fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains.
The study also found that short sleepers (5-6 hours) consumed the most calories, so a diet that has some calorie restriction, such as Hearty Meals, is another beneficial aspect to promote healthy sleep patterns.

Short sleeping patterns (less than 5 hours) is associated with less water intake, lycopene intake (found in tomatoes,) intake of carbohydrates, and food variety. This shows us the importance of water intake, which I have emphasized in a previous blog entry.

So to promote healthy sleep patterns be sure to have lots of water, a large variety of healthy foods, and use portion control to eat a healthy amount of calories.
